Evie’s Dad; Adam Lerner is no stranger to fundraising having raised thousands of pounds through www.evieseverest.org towards therapy for her. Every day for Evie is like climbing a mountain – the day to day activities that most people take for granted have not come easy for Evie. Walking and communicating are daily challenges that require help and support from Adam and Mum Rachel.
Evie has not had a specific diagnosis but her last MRI scan showed an abnormality, a white matter brain condition called hypo-myelination, meaning messages and processing of information are distorted. As a result, Evie has global development delay meaning she is significantly behind other two years olds. Evie has hypo mobility meaning her joints are bendy so she struggles to find any stability. Her cognitive development is delayed and her understanding of the world and ability to communicate are such that she often feels frustrated and upset, unable to express her feelings, wants and wishes.
Despite all of this, every day, Evie shows a desire to move and have close contact with people – she blows kisses, smiles and cuddles and lightens up even the darkest of days.
This May, Adam takes on Yorkshire’s toughest cycling challenge. The one day (and extremely hilly) Etape Du Dales! He only needs to cycle over 110 miles which being Yorkshire, includes 11,500ft of climbing this is no easy feat and we’re chuffed to bits that he’s chosen SNAPS to benefit from his fundraising
The family have been regulars at SNAPS for about a year and half now, since Evie was 2.5 years where Evie attends weekly rebound therapy which strengthens her core and her ability to balance.
“SNAPS is a local charity whose sole purpose is to provide support for local families just like us, and they really have provided a lifeline for us over the past few years. We attend SNAPS every week and as a result now have a support network of families who we can share knowledge and advice – who have to complete the same local authority forms, have similar experiences with multiple hospital appointments and educational challenges – and can also share the amazing joys that our special children bring to the world.”
Adam has a Virgin Money page which you can donate to here: Adam’s Virgin Money page and his epic cycle ride will take place on May 20th. A huge thanks to Adam and to all of our amazing supporters.
